Responsibilities:

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and finance processes for multiple portfolio companies and investments and assist the controller in compiling consolidated financial statements at the Holding company. As a newly created position, this role will embrace attributes of adaptability and flexibility as the specific duties and responsibilities will evolve based on both the skills of the incumbent and the changing circumstances at the Company. The candidate must be a highly motivated individual who possesses excellent communication and process improvement skills and demonstrated knowledge of key responsibilities.

  • Responsible for the preparation and/or review of quarterly reports, variance analysis, and annual audited financial statements in accordance with US GAAP (investment company accounting and fair market value concepts)
  • Partner closely with the Controller, Operating company finance teams, portfolio management team and outside partners to resolve any potential issues and identify financial reporting efficiency opportunities across the portfolio.
  • Manage technical research and application of US GAAP to accounting issues pertaining to investment companies and issues occurring in the investments.
  • Lead relationship with external auditors during the quarterly review and year-end audit and tax processes
  • Manage outsourced fund accounting firm and supervise staff in reviewing all work relating to the operations of the portfolio
  • Manage relationship with custodians and trustees for settlement of any security trades and review recording all investment activity
  • Partner with Chief Compliance Officer and outside legal counsel on all fund governance, regulatory requirements and quarterly filings
  • Review and analyze capital structures for equity and debt investments to determine appropriate accounting
  • Complete quarterly investor reporting requirements and debt compliance calculations
  • Monitor fund liquidity by updating forecasts / budgets incorporating the underlying asset’s cash needs
  • Interact with clients and joint venture partners at various levels, respond to inquiries, and maintain relationships
  • Perform any additional responsibilities that may be required by management in support of the accounting and finance functions.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting
  • CPA/MBA and experience in real estate/investments/financial services preferred
  • Experience in SEC reporting/investment accounting (FMV based) and knowledge of equity and debt investments strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of experience across multiple finance/accounting disciplines 
  • Financial statement preparation, including footnotes and ability to address complex accounting issues
  • Experience with Workday or knowledge of setting up account posting rules and working with consolidation software preferred
  • Strong communication skills, including written, oral, listening and presentation abilities
  • Solid attention to detail
  • Proven track record of working with/leading cross-functional or matrixed teams a plus
