About The Position

As the Tax Manager for Hilco Redevelopment Partners, you will report to the VP of Finance with additional reporting responsibilities to the Chief Financial Officer of the Company.  You will work with our expanding tax team at Hilco Global and play a key role in achieving Company and investor tax objectives given a broad range of challenging tax issues.  The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all tax financial reporting, compliance and planning, as well as property tax compliance.  The Tax Manager for Hilco Redevelopment Partners will work with a cross functional Hilco Global team of tax professionals and outside service providers to meet on-going business tax requirements and obligations.  This position is located in our downtown Chicago office.


  • Assist with strategic domestic initiatives including planning, financial modeling, business development and monitoring tax law changes.
  • Manage multiple U.S. service providers and tax compliance, including detailed review of all tax returns.
  • Research and implement tax planning around complex real estate construction projects.
  • Participate in strategic tax planning around advising investment personnel in structuring complex real estate transactions around tax considerations.
  • Review tax ramifications in real estate operating and development agreements.
  • Provide oversight over property tax consultants, helping asset management and development personnel manage property tax assessments, appeal deadlines and processes, and payment deadlines, with the overall goal to minimize property tax expense.
  • Assist with tax process and technology improvement initiatives.
  • Manage business processes and/or projects, as well as set priorities and measurable objectives, related to all tax-related matters.
  • Work to enhance the organization's capabilities through effective team building, staffing and development of others.
  • Mentor junior staff to achieve business results.
  • Advise and monitor REIT compliance matters with external investors.
  • Assist with the Hilco Global tax team’s management of legal entities.
  • Assist HRP and Hilco Global accounting staff with all aspects relating to tax compliance and planning, including adjusting journal entries.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Master’s Degree in Taxation or related field; CPA required.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of tax experience.
  • Strong background in partnership taxation for commercial real estate required.REIT experience a plus but not required.
  • Analytical, solutions-focused mindset with the proven ability to work independently as well as to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional technical skills and analytical capabilities with strong attention to detail (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with software and system applications and ability to learn internal applications.Yardi experience is preferred but not required.
  • International tax experience a plus but not required.
